About the Session

Participants of the Future of Protein Production conference andexhibition are invited for a site visit to laboratories and green house of theUniversity of Amsterdam at the Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences where a research cluster, Green Life Sciences (GLS) aims to understand the molecular mechanisms ofhow plants deal with biotic and abiotic constraints, how they interact with beneficialorganisms (e.g insects, microbes), and how they diversified during evolution.

At GLS, we are currently developing a program to explore new routes to grow a wide variety of protein-rich crops in an environmentally sustainable and economically viable way, supporting the National government’s ultimate goal of having approximately 70% of proteins consumed in the Netherlands of plantorig in by 2050. The role of inorganic and organic nitrogen sources plays a key role in this as well as consumer- and institutional behavior. We are always interested to make new connections and start collaborations with partners from different sectors.

The site visit will be organised on Thursday 24 October 2024, just after the formal closure of the conference. A bus will take you from the RAI conference centre to Amsterdam Science Park and back. There is room for maximum 30 participants, based on first come, first served. Please register before 20 October via this link: Registration
