Exhibitor Profile
MarraBio Ltd
MarraBio's technology focuses on ultra-stable engineered bacterial protein polymers that can mimic extracellular matrix proteins and growth factors for cell culture. MarraBio's Caf1 proteins are: 1) ultra-stable and easy to work with, 2) free from animal materials, 3) effective mimics of the bioactive proteins required in cell culture, 4) highly modular, allowing different functional subunits to be easily combined, and 5) produced scalably and inexpensively by bacterial cell culture. Unmodified Caf1 is bioinert, but we are able to genetically insert small portions of other bioactive proteins, e.g. ECM proteins and growth factors, in order to produce mimics. These benefit from Caf1's high stability and ability to be easily immobilised on glass or plastic surfaces, making them ideal for cell culture. We produce the proteins scalably and in high yield by bacterial cell culture, reducing cost of goods. Furthermore, different functional modules can be easily combined to form a single material, for example including both ECM and growth factor modules at the same time, further reducing materials costs. Our first products launced in June 2024, and are mimics of fibronectin and vitronectin for stem cell culture. Coming soon, we also have mimics of laminin, as well as growth factors FGF2 and TGF-B. These products will be aimed towards researchers, as well as those in the cultivated meat and cell therapy industries.
