3D Food Printing has the potential to create a new category of realistic plant-based foods. The technology is able to integrate fat into protein fibers, therefore making the texture of products like filets or steaks much more realistic. In 2024, Revo Foods became the first company in the world to scale this new production technology up to several tons/month, and has opened the biggest 3D food production site in Vienna, called THE TASTE FACTORY. The first product is “THE FILET- Inspired by Salmon”, which was rolled out in 1200 BILLA supermarkets in Vienna. Robin Simsa (CEO) explains the crucial new technology development steps and upscaling challenges the company needed to overcome, and the potential of 3D food production to make plant-based products appealing for the mainstream market.
